A 39-year-old New York woman was shot and killed this week in what authorities believe may have been the violent end of a bitter inheritance battle with her uncle.

Michael Foster, 58, has been charged with murder, manslaughter and 10 counts of criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the death of his niece, Julia Anderson, the NYPD said.

Police were called to an area near a school in the Wakefield section of the Bronx shortly before midnight on July 13. Officers found Anderson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her abdomen, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police source stated that Anderson was shot while sitting inside her Jeep before falling out of the vehicle. The gunman then allegedly fled on a moped.

Investigators later searched Foster’s home and recovered two semiautomatic handguns and a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle, according to a criminal complaint.

Foster was arrested Wednesday evening and formally charged in the case.

Anderson and Foster reportedly shared a home on Bell Avenue in Mount Vernon, less than a mile from where the shooting took place.

According to the police source, the two had been locked in a bitter inheritance dispute involving the property.

Anderson worked as an aide for people with developmental disabilities and had just finished a shift at a nearby group home before she was killed, CBS News reported.

The investigation remains ongoing.
