A horrifying murder-suicide that left an entire Kansas family dead has taken an even more disturbing turn, with investigators now saying both parents allegedly planned to kill their four young children before taking their own lives.

Ronald H. Williams Sr., 53, and Kelly L. George, 44, were found dead inside their Winfield home on Aug. 11 along with their four children: 9-year-old Carol A. Williams, 7-year-old Ronald H. Williams Jr., 5-year-old Sarah K. Williams and 3-year-old Kelly M. Magee-Williams.

Authorities initially believed Williams had killed George and the children before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

But the Kansas Bureau of Investigation later revealed a bombshell development.

Investigators now believe Williams and George planned together to kill their children and then themselves.

The KBI has not publicly revealed exactly what evidence led investigators to conclude that George was involved in the alleged plan.

Authorities did reveal that investigators found documentation showing George had purchased a Taurus .38 Special revolver in February 2025.

That gun was recovered from the scene.

The KBI said investigators currently have no evidence indicating that anyone other than Williams and George was responsible for the six deaths.

The nightmare began at around 8:50 a.m. on Aug. 11, when Winfield police received a 911 call from a man who said he had killed his entire family and was preparing to kill himself.

Officers rushed to the family’s home in the 400 block of West 9th Avenue.

As police approached, they heard a single gunshot coming from the residence.

Officers backed away, established a perimeter and treated the situation as a barricade until authorities could safely enter the home.

At approximately 10:57 a.m., officers breached the front door.

Inside, they discovered all six members of the family dead.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation was called in shortly afterward to help investigate.

Authorities initially said they believed Williams killed the other five family members before placing the 911 call and then shooting himself as officers arrived.

That theory changed as investigators uncovered additional evidence.

The KBI said investigators do not believe an argument or physical fight immediately preceded the killings.

Instead, investigators say evidence indicates the deaths were planned.

Authorities also learned that both Williams and George had reportedly displayed unusual behavior before the tragedy.

According to the KBI, the couple had made what investigators described as a pattern of “nonsensical statements” to police, neighbors and other people in the community in the period leading up to the deaths.

Neighbors have since questioned whether warning signs were missed.

Williams had a lengthy criminal history and was a registered sex offender, while people living nearby said they had witnessed erratic behavior around the home before the killings.

Some residents are now asking whether authorities or child welfare officials could have intervened before the four children were killed.

“I just feel like they should’ve done more, investigated more, checked up on them, you know?” neighbor Gary Colyston told KWCH.

Another neighbor, Ann Stofferan, said the tragedy has left residents wondering whether there was anything they could have done themselves.

“‘Cause you kind of wonder yourself, could I have prevented that?” she said.

A child advocacy expert noted that these situations can be extremely difficult for investigators, particularly when children are afraid to speak or may not understand that what they are experiencing at home is abnormal.

Police said there is no continuing threat to the Winfield community.

The KBI investigation remains active, and once it is completed, investigators said a full report will be submitted to the Cowley County Attorney.

The deaths have left the small community grieving four children whose lives ended before they had barely begun — while investigators continue trying to understand how an alleged plan to wipe out an entire family was allowed to unfold.

  1. Williams’ criminal record and being black is what attracted kelly George in the first place.
No doubt the kids would have grown up to be as nutty as their so called “parents.”
