Two Oklahoma parents have been arrested after investigators uncovered allegations of severe child neglect, including claims that one child was confined inside a wooden box while another was kept in a playpen for extended periods without proper food or hygiene.
Sara Tudor, 46, and Michael Brown, 43, each face three counts of child neglect following an investigation into the living conditions of their three children, ages 9, 8 and 4.
The disturbing case began July 27 when a schoolteacher in Garvin County, approximately 60 miles south of Oklahoma City, contacted the Oklahoma Department of Human Services to express concerns about the children’s well-being.
The teacher’s report prompted child welfare officials to investigate the family, eventually leading to a criminal investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI).
According to authorities, investigators learned that one child had allegedly been confined inside a wooden box, while another was restricted to a playpen for at least 20 hours.
Officials also discovered allegations that the children were not receiving adequate meals and were routinely denied basic hygiene, including showers and baths.
The children’s living conditions were described as hazardous, raising serious concerns about their physical and emotional health.
On July 31, the District 21 District Attorney’s Office formally requested assistance from the OSBI to investigate the allegations.
As investigators examined the family’s circumstances, the children were removed from their parents’ care and placed with foster families.
Medical professionals subsequently evaluated all three children and determined that each had experienced psychological abuse associated with confinement and being treated in ways inappropriate for their developmental ages.
Authorities also reported evidence of harm linked to inadequate physical care and unsafe living conditions.
The investigation ultimately led to the arrests of Tudor and Brown on Thursday, October 8.
Both parents were booked into the Garvin County Jail on three felony counts of child neglect.
Officials have not disclosed which children were allegedly confined in the wooden box and playpen or provided detailed information about how long the conditions had existed.
Investigators have also not publicly explained why the parents allegedly restricted the children’s movements or failed to provide adequate care.
Under Oklahoma law, child neglect can include failing to provide appropriate food, shelter, hygiene, medical attention and supervision. Serious cases involving prolonged deprivation or dangerous living conditions can result in felony prosecution.
The arrests highlight the importance of educators and other adults reporting concerns when they suspect children are being mistreated.
In this case, a teacher’s decision to contact child welfare authorities ultimately brought three children to the attention of investigators.
The children remain in protective care, and officials have not released additional information about their current conditions.
Court dates for Tudor and Brown have not been publicly confirmed. Both are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The investigation remains ongoing
