A Texarkana, Texas man and his teenage son allegedly attacked a Central Mall employee earlier this month, leaving the victim unconscious and with several broken bones.

Daniel Lynn Thomas, 38, and his 13-year-old son allegedly attacked Richard Houff Jr. on Jan. 20 after the alleged victim asked the teen and his friend to leave the mall because they were being rowdy, according to reporting from TXK Today.

The teens were playing with a stroller before initially being approached by a female security officer, police told KSLA. Houff reportedly stepped in after the teens became verbally abusive toward the female officer and told them to leave.

Thomas then returned to the mall with his son and confronted Houff, police told KSLA. The father and son duo then allegedly struck Houff simultaneously in the face and under the chin, knocking him unconscious to the ground. Daniel ThomasTexarkana Texas Police Department

“Our investigation determined that Thomas hit the man in the face and knocked him unconscious,” the Texarkana Police Department said in a Jan. 24 Facebook post. “He then stood over the man and hit him at least four more times.”

Houff was reportedly hit so hard that he was required to get facial surgery and is in danger of losing an eye.

“After the assault the teenage male and adult male proceeded to walk out of the south entry of the mall, not appearing to be concerned whatsoever,” the affidavit obtained by TXK Today stated.

According to a GoFundMe page titled “Richard Houff Emergency Medical Fund,” Houff was airlifted to UAMS in Little Rock where doctors worked to save his eye. The post identifies Houff as the sole provider for his family of four and states that he was working two jobs to support them before the brutal attack.

Thomas was arrested Wednesday and released the same day after posting a $150,000 bond, according to TKK. He was charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and faces up to 20 years in prison.

  1. I not only pray the POS gets the maximum sentence, but also that he is required to serve every last minute. No parole or time off for good behavior. He should also be required to pay restitution to the Houff family.

Ditto prayers for Mr. Houff and his family.

  2. This so called father shouldn’t be allowed to raise any child of any age, what a complete loser. I can see why his son doesn’t know how to behave. This judge shouldn’t given this violent pos a bail. I sure hope they sentence him to the full 20 years! Prayers to Mr Houff and his family for a speedy recovery.
