Two people died after allegedly being shot by a Miami-Dade Transit bus driver during an argument at early Sunday morning.
Around 3 a.m. Sunday, March 30, the bus driver and passengers got into an argument, eventually leading to the driver allegedly firing his gun several times in the bus, the Miami Gardens police said at a press conference.
According to police, the two passengers were taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where they both died.
Guilleume Lageur, who works next door to where the shooting happened, said he heard the fight begin before he heard gunshots. “I never knew bus drivers could ride with a gun,” he said to WSVN.
Another local resident, who identified himself to the outlet as Wave God, said he was coming from a nearby store when he heard six shots.
“They were probably just trying to get to their next destination and then somebody just decided to take their life, and that’s not even fair,” he said.
A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade’s Department of Transportation and Public Works said to the Miami Herald that guns are not allowed as a self-defense measure for bus drivers and that they aren’t allowed to be armed.
“This morning an incident aboard a Metrobus remains under investigation, and the Department of Transportation and Public Works is fully cooperating with law enforcement,” the department said in a statement to the outlet.
County Commissioner Eileen Higgins, chair of the Commission’s transportation committee, told the Miami Herald that she was “heartbroken” by the deaths.
“Another example of why people shouldn’t have guns,” she said in a text message to the outlet. “Two people would still be alive today if there had been a shouting match rather than a shooting match.”
The identities of the driver and two men who were killed are still unknown at this time.

It’s sad what happened, but we don’t know what lead to it and the nonsense coming from the idiot county commissioner is the reason why people have to be armed, because according to her, bus drivers are not allowed to self defend. They should just rollover for every POS that is on the bus at 3am.
