A Louisiana middle school teacher is facing serious charges after police say a random drug check at her school uncovered cocaine in her bag.
Virginia Somers, 47, a math intervention teacher at Westdale Middle School in Baton Rouge, was arrested Tuesday after a K-9 named Vimsen with the East Baton Rouge Parish School Drug Task Force allegedly detected narcotics in her belongings, according to a probable cause report.
Police say the dog alerted its handler to Somers’ book bag, leading to a search of her wallet where officers reportedly found a small amount of cocaine. A field test allegedly confirmed the substance.
After being read her rights, Somers allegedly admitted the cocaine was not hers, but told officers she had snorted it during a tailgate party outside an LSU football game the weekend before.
Officers then searched her Honda CR-V, with Somers’ consent, and allegedly found marijuana, lighters, and two pipes stored inside a gray bag in the glove compartment. Authorities say a total of 0.8 grams of cocaine and 0.5 grams of marijuana were seized.
Somers has been charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violating controlled substances laws within a school zone. She was scheduled to make her first court appearance Wednesday.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Public School System confirmed her arrest in a statement shared with WAFB, writing: “This behavior is not condoned by our district and we remain committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and drug-free environment for all students and staff.”

All I can say is that I am glad 💖 do not have grand children
How are these people allowed to be teachers? They have absolutely no common sense at all.
