At least one person is dead and several others are wounded after chaos erupted during a shooting at a New Hampshire country club.

The violence unfolded on Saturday, Sept. 20, when police say 23-year-old Hunter Nadeau entered the Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua and opened fire. Attorney General John M. Formella confirmed that one man, 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare, was killed, and two other adults were injured in the attack.

“The suspected shooter was detained on-scene by Nashua police officers,” officials said in a press release from the New Hampshire Department of Justice.

Initial reports suggested two armed suspects had fled the area, but video surveillance confirmed there was only one gunman. Nadeau has since been charged with second-degree murder, and authorities say additional charges are expected. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Sept. 22.

The shooting took place just steps from a restaurant hosting a wedding party packed with hundreds of guests. Witnesses recalled panic as the sound of gunfire broke out mid-celebration. One person reportedly struck the suspect over the head with a chair before he was taken into custody.

A wedding guest described the terrifying moment to WDHD 7News: “We never got to that point … because that’s when we heard pop pop pop … a wall away. I ran the opposite direction.”

The Sky Meadow Country Club, located on a golf course, is a popular venue for weddings and special events.

Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander said in a statement that she is “closely monitoring the tragic reports” and expressed sympathy for the victims, their families, and the Nashua community.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Nashua Police Department at 603-594-3500.
