A shocking case out of Illinois has led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend in what prosecutors say was a twisted attempt to “prove his love” to his current girlfriend.
Authorities say Jaquon L. Timothy opened fire on his ex during the early morning hours of July 19 in Peoria, Illinois. Police responding to a 1:30 a.m. call found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to her feet, according to the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Timothy was charged last week with aggravated battery with a firearm after investigators uncovered disturbing evidence linking him to the attack. His current girlfriend allegedly told police that Timothy confessed his plan before the shooting, describing it as a way to send her a message.
Afterward, Timothy reportedly told the woman he had “carried it out.” A search of his phone turned up a text message where he appeared to claim responsibility for the shooting, prosecutors said.
The victim’s current condition has not been released, and it’s unclear if Timothy has entered a plea or secured an attorney. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to contact Peoria detectives at 309-673-4521.
