A Pennsylvania school van driver is facing serious charges after police say he inappropriately touched a 15-year-old girl and asked her for a hug and a kiss during a ride to school.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, 73-year-old Daryl Nichols of Brownsville was driving the teen from Chestnut Ridge Christian Academy to the Fayette County Career and Technical Institute on October 9 around 11:15 a.m. She was the only passenger in the van at the time.
Court documents say surveillance video from inside the vehicle shows Nichols placing his hand on the girl’s leg as she sat in the passenger seat. Investigators allege he told her he had a dream about her, gave her a dessert, and then asked for a hug. Nichols then pulled the van over in Uniontown, hugged the teen, and asked her for a kiss.
The student refused and later told her parents what happened. They reported the incident to state police in Belle Vernon. According to the criminal complaint, the girl told investigators she only hugged Nichols because she wanted to get out of the situation.
Nichols, who works for Mlaker Student Transportation, had been driving the student for about a month. The company released a statement saying it is cooperating fully with the investigation and emphasizing that student safety is its top priority.
At this time, Nichols has not been arrested, but he is facing several charges, including corruption of a minor and indecent assault.
