Two teenage sisters from Long Island have been arrested after allegedly stabbing a 21-year-old man who stepped in to defend his younger sister during a violent confrontation, police and family members said.
The attack happened around 10:20 p.m. Saturday outside a home in Mastic, Suffolk County. Authorities say Bay Shore siblings Diamond King, 18, and Myia King-Harrison, 19, got into a heated altercation with the victim, identified as Nico Cassetana, after he tried to protect his 14-year-old sister from them.
According to Suffolk County police, Cassetana was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital, where his father told Newsday that his son is now in a medically induced coma.
Footage obtained by News 12 shows the injured young man calling 911 for help moments after being stabbed.
Both sisters have been charged with first-degree gang assault and first-degree assault.
“It’s a normal thing to do,” said Nico’s father, Lionel Cassetana. “He was just protecting his sister.”
Lionel added that his daughter has been targeted before by a group of girls and believes his son’s bravery may have saved her life. “I’m glad my son was there and he survived because my daughter would’ve gotten stabbed,” he said. “She’s very small, very slim — she probably would have died.”
The sisters were arrested on Sunday and are expected to be arraigned on Monday.
So brave that young man, and so cowardly those two women 18 and 19 year olds against a 14 year old girl! Pathetic. Hopefully this young man recovers from this vicious attack!
