A shocking incident in Indiana has left a neighborhood reeling after a hunter allegedly killed two pet dogs while out deer hunting with his son.

According to police, John Lowe, 58, and his son Hayden Lowe, 22, have been charged in connection with the deaths of a beagle and a chocolate Labrador retriever in LaPorte, Indiana. The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrests last week.

Authorities say the father and son were hunting deer when John allegedly shot the two neighborhood pets with a bow and arrow. Police were called on Tuesday, October 21, after a woman discovered her beagle dead on a nearby property. Investigators noted the dog had sustained fatal injuries to the rib cage. Meanwhile, the woman reported her chocolate Lab was missing.

During the investigation, a local hunter told police that he heard the dogs moving in the woods before hearing them whimper and yelp. He later crossed paths with John Lowe, who allegedly admitted that he and his son were looking for a place to discard the dogs’ bodies. Hayden allegedly disposed of the chocolate Lab at another location, authorities said.

John Lowe later admitted to shooting both dogs when questioned by police. He faces two felony charges: killing a domestic animal and obstruction of justice. Hayden Lowe has been charged with felony obstruction of justice. Both were released on cash bond.

The case has sparked outrage in the community, with neighbors and animal lovers alike expressing shock at the reported actions of the father and son.

  1. The punishment should be equivalent to the pain the owner of the two dogs is undergoing at the moment and for years to come. No dog can be replaced. So these two should be made to appreciate the depth of this grief by experiencing the loss of many years to come locked in a prison of steel bars and concrete never to shoot another living thing.
