A teenage Texas woman has been sentenced to decades in prison for the fatal shooting of a fast-food manager following an argument over fake money at a drive-in restaurant.
Adiah Roberson, 19, pleaded no contest earlier this month to charges of murder, assault causing bodily injury, and forgery. As part of a plea agreement finalized Friday, she was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder charge and 20 years for the assault charge. The sentences will run concurrently. No sentence was imposed for the forgery count.
The deadly incident happened on July 7, 2024, at a Sonic Drive-In on Babcock Road in San Antonio.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, Roberson was with a group of friends who attempted to pay for their food using counterfeit money. Daniel Shrewsbury, 33, the restaurant’s manager, confronted the group and refused to complete the transaction.
Police said an argument broke out between Roberson and Shrewsbury inside the restaurant’s kitchen. Eventually, the group paid with real money and prepared to leave. As they exited, Roberson allegedly grabbed cash from a tip jar. Shrewsbury followed them outside and attempted to photograph their license plate.
Authorities said the driver, 29-year-old Joshua Joseph, became upset and warned Shrewsbury that he was about to get shot. At that point, Roberson exited the vehicle, pulled out a gun, and shot Shrewsbury.
The wounded manager staggered back inside the Sonic, where he collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a tribute posted to her son’s obituary page, Shrewsbury’s mother described him as deeply dedicated to his job and beloved by his coworkers. She wrote that Daniel was a jokester who brought joy to everyone he worked with and was loved by his entire team.
On July 16, 2024, police issued arrest warrants for Roberson and Joseph on charges including murder and forgery of a government document. Joseph was later arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Roberson, meanwhile, was placed on the Texas Most Wanted list by the Texas Department of Public Safety. She was arrested in October 2024 at an apartment complex in Dallas, roughly 275 miles northeast of San Antonio. She was 17 years old at the time of her arrest.
After his arrest, Joseph told reporters he was sorry for what happened and said the shooting was not his decision. Prosecutors later dropped all charges against him.
During Roberson’s sentencing hearing, Benjamin Robertson, a judge in Bexar County’s 226th Criminal District Court, expressed concern that the agreed-upon sentence did not fully reflect the severity of the crime, according to KSAT. Despite his reservations, the judge ultimately agreed to accept the plea deal.
Roberson will now spend much of her life behind bars for a crime that stemmed from a brief confrontation but ended in irreversible loss.
All these liberals whining that blacks are unfairly targeted, are obviously ignoring the facts that these people are born criminals and proportionately commit more crimes than others.
