Man Accused of Running Over His Fiancée and Her Daughter — Then Fleeing the Scene

A bizarre and terrifying scene unfolded in South Carolina when two women were struck by a pickup truck while reportedly being towed behind a vehicle on what authorities described as a plastic container lid.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. on Jan. 31 along Shell Point Road near Broad River Drive, according to local reports citing the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

A witness told authorities the two women were being pulled behind a vehicle when it made a turn — and they were suddenly left in the roadway. Moments later, a 2022 Ram pickup truck plowed into them.

The driver of the truck, identified as 46-year-old Richard Quinn Davidson, allegedly left the scene after the crash. According to reports citing an indictment, Davidson is believed to have been engaged to the older of the two victims.

“He did get back in his car and reversed out and left the scene,” local resident Emma Schoenstra told WJCL.

The two victims were identified as a 47-year-old mother and her 20-year-old daughter. Schoenstra said she rushed outside to help them before emergency crews arrived.

“I was wrapping up their hands that were laying in the snow, wrapping up their feet — they had lost their shoes,” she said. “I was just wrapping all of their limbs that were touching the ice so they could stay warm until the ambulance got here.”

Despite suffering severe injuries — including a fractured skull, punctured lung, broken ribs, multiple broken vertebrae, and a dislocated shoulder — authorities reportedly described their injuries as non-life-threatening.

Davidson has been charged with two counts of felony driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury, along with two counts of hit and run involving great bodily injury. Court records show he was later released on personal recognizance bonds totaling $60,000.

Authorities have not released additional details as the investigation continues.
