A rideshare trip in Colorado has turned into a disturbing criminal case after an Uber driver was arrested and accused of assaulting an intoxicated passenger.
Police say 29-year-old Javier Delgado-Cordoba turned himself in at the Jefferson County Jail on April 20 after a warrant was issued by the Arvada Police Department. He is now facing three serious charges tied to an alleged assault that investigators say happened during what should have been a routine ride.
According to reports, Delgado-Cordoba picked up a woman and her boyfriend from a bar in Denver and drove them to a home in Arvada. But things took a shocking turn once they arrived.
Police say the boyfriend got out of the car to unlock the door, leaving the woman—who was reportedly intoxicated—in the back seat. That’s when investigators allege the driver climbed into the back and drove off before the boyfriend could return.
Authorities say the woman was later dropped off in another city, where she contacted family members and sought medical attention. She also underwent a forensic exam as part of the investigation.
Detectives were able to identify Delgado-Cordoba through his Uber profile, along with social media activity and DNA evidence, according to reports.
He is currently being held on a $20,000 cash-only bond and faces charges including sexual assault of a helpless victim, assault of a victim unable to consent, and assault without consent. He is expected to appear in court on May 20.
Investigators say Delgado-Cordoba may have completed more than 1,000 rides while working as a driver and are concerned there could be additional victims. They are urging anyone who believes they may have had contact with him to reach out to law enforcement.
Police also released details about the vehicle allegedly used—a light-colored 2023 Kia K5—but noted he may have used other cars as well.
Officials acknowledged how difficult cases like this can be to report and emphasized that support is available for anyone affected.
The case comes as Uber continues rolling out new safety features, including an option that allows women riders and drivers to match only with other women in certain areas.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Arvada Police tip line as the investigation continues.
