A disturbing case out of Michigan has left a community shaken after a young girl was found injured and alone in the woods behind her home—and her mother is now facing serious charges.

Authorities say 40-year-old Christina Kay Crow has been charged with assault with intent to murder and first-degree child abuse following the incident in Thompsonville.

According to the Benzie County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were originally sent to the home on April 20 for a routine welfare check. But what they uncovered quickly turned into something far more alarming.

When deputies arrived, Crow told them her 5-year-old daughter was staying with her grandmother. But investigators soon learned that wasn’t true.

After speaking with family members, deputies began searching the property—and that’s when they made a heartbreaking discovery.

The little girl was found outside in the woods, wrapped in a brown blanket and suffering from serious injuries to her neck and face. Officials say she had been left in extremely cold conditions, with temperatures around 22 degrees that morning.

“She was very hypothermic,” authorities said, noting that the child was not properly dressed for the weather. Despite the conditions, she was conscious when found, though slow to respond.

Deputies immediately rushed her to the hospital, where she is now reported to be in stable condition.

Sheriff Kyle Rosa said officers followed every lead to make sure the child was safe, and their quick actions likely made all the difference.

Crow was arrested at the scene and later arraigned on April 22. She is currently being held on a $1 million bond as the case moves forward.
