A 25-year-old Arizona man is facing attempted murder charges after prosecutors say he brutally stabbed his own mother in the neck while she was sleeping inside their home.
Police in Chandler responded to reports of a stabbing around 4:30 a.m. Friday near Elliot and Alma School roads in the East Valley.
When officers arrived at the residence, they found a woman suffering from serious injuries. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Authorities detained 25-year-old George Randall at the scene before later arresting him on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.
During Randall’s first court appearance Friday night, prosecutors revealed chilling details about the alleged attack.
According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, Randall allegedly stabbed his mother in the side of her neck while she was asleep on the couch.
Prosecutors said the victim lost consciousness due to severe blood loss after the near-fatal attack.
She later underwent surgery and is now reportedly recovering in stable condition.
Officials also claimed Randall made disturbing statements to investigators after the stabbing.
“This appears to be a completely unprovoked attack,” a prosecutor said in court, according to local reports.
Authorities further alleged Randall admitted he had been thinking about killing his mother for weeks and intentionally targeted an area of the neck that would cause maximum damage.
The judge approved a $1 million cash-only bond after prosecutors raised concerns about Randall’s mental health and potential danger to others.
“We are concerned that he is a very dangerous person and could possibly harm other people,” the prosecutor reportedly said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
