An Ohio father is facing serious charges after police say an argument over his daughter’s messy bedroom turned violent.
Deputies with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence call at a home in Vienna Township on Saturday, May 9, around 1:30 p.m., according to an incident report obtained.
The alleged victim, 22, told authorities that her father, 56-year-old Jeffrey Canzonetta, had been “acting crazy” and had pushed both her and her mother in the hallway.
According to the report, the confrontation began when Canzonetta allegedly made negative comments to his daughter while she was in her bedroom, including remarks about how messy the room was.
The daughter told police that her father kept moving closer to her even after she repeatedly yelled at him to leave the room.
Canzonetta’s wife, Maria, reportedly told officers she woke up to the sound of the two screaming and pushing each other in the hallway. She said she tried to step in, but her husband allegedly pushed her to the ground.
The situation allegedly escalated after the daughter called 911.
According to the incident report, Canzonetta allegedly wrapped his hands around his daughter’s neck and began choking her.
“The victim stated that her father pushed her against the wall and put his hand around her throat and squeezed tightly and she couldn’t breathe,” the report said.
Canzonetta then allegedly left for work.
Deputies later arrested him at his workplace without incident and took him to the county jail.
According to Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office records, Canzonetta was charged with felony strangulation and two misdemeanor counts of domestic violence.
He was arraigned Monday, May 11, in Girard Municipal Court and released on $7,500 bail, according to WFMJ.
The case has left a disturbing picture of a family argument that police say spiraled far beyond a messy bedroom.
