A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder after a 15-year-old was stabbed to death in London following a house party that reportedly turned chaotic.
The victim has been identified as Brayan David Saldarriaga, a 15-year-old from Haringey.
Police said Brayan was found with stab wounds on Monday after a fight spilled out from a house party in Hackney.
The 16-year-old suspect, who cannot be named because of his age, was charged Friday with murder and possession of a bladed article. He is expected to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
The tragedy unfolded after police were called around 7:17 p.m. Monday to reports of a large gathering, disorder and sightings of people carrying machetes in Towpath Walk in Hackney.
Officers responded to the scene along with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.
Emergency crews later found Brayan injured with stab wounds in nearby Poplar Close. Despite desperate efforts to save him, he died at the scene.
His family has been notified and is being supported by specialist officers.
Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the investigation, said Brayan’s loved ones have asked for privacy as they grieve.
“Our thoughts remain with Brayan’s loved ones following this tragic incident,” Card said. “They have asked for privacy as they come to terms with Brayan’s death and we ask that their wishes are respected.”
Police also acknowledged the fear and concern the stabbing has caused in the local community.
“We understand the impact this incident has had on the local community,” Card said. “If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to speak with one of our officers on patrol in the area this week.”
Investigators believe many people may have captured video of the gathering or the moments surrounding the stabbing on their phones.
Card urged witnesses to come forward, saying even one piece of footage could help detectives understand what happened.
“We know there were a significant number of people who recorded the large gathering and the incident on their mobile phone,” she said.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened or who has footage of the incident to come forward to police — your information could be vital.”
