A Georgia mother of three was shot and killed by her husband in an apparent murder-suicide that unfolded while their children were inside the home, police said.
The tragic scene was discovered Sunday at the family’s home in Johns Creek, about 27 miles from downtown Atlanta.
Police said one of the couple’s teenage sons called 911 after finding his parents dead and reporting that a domestic dispute had escalated into gunfire.
Authorities said the couple’s three children, ages 17, 13 and 12, were inside the home when the shooting happened.
First responders found 52-year-old Richard Holladay and his wife, 43-year-old Martha Holladay, dead inside the residence.
“Preliminary investigations indicate the female died from a gunshot wound to the head and that the male died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head,” the Johns Creek Police Department said.
Police said detectives believe Richard shot and killed Martha before taking his own life.
The children were not physically injured and are safe, according to authorities. Police said the family’s next of kin has been notified.
Martha’s death has devastated those who knew her. The North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, where she served as a board member, remembered her as a kind, talented and deeply caring woman.
“Martha was a beautiful and talented professional who created and led Chamber events with a passion to make our members feel happy and connected,” the Chamber wrote on Instagram.
“She left a lasting impact on all of us. We mourn her untimely death and pray for her sons who she loved deeply and with all her heart.”
The case remains under investigation as the community mourns a mother remembered for her faith, warmth and compassion.
