An Alabama teenager is accused of fatally stabbing his mother and seriously wounding his father during a violent attack that authorities believe began after the boy was disciplined.
The 17-year-old, whose identity has not been released because of his age, is facing charges of murder and attempted murder following the Sunday, July 5, incident, according to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to a home in Daphne, where they found 37-year-old Samantha Baker suffering from multiple stab wounds, WSFA reported, citing investigators. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The teenager’s father, 46-year-old Lance Baker, was also wounded in the attack. He was rushed to a hospital and remains under medical care.
Investigators believe the stabbing was triggered after the teen was disciplined, although authorities have not released further details about what happened before the violence began.
Neighbor Shawn Scurry told AL.com that surveillance footage captured Lance outside the home desperately screaming for help after the attack.
“And he’s going house to house, hand prints, there’s blood on them all,” Scurry told the outlet.
The teenager was taken into custody at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
Scurry said the alleged attack left the neighborhood stunned.
She told AL.com that she “never saw this coming” and remains “in shock” over the deadly violence.
