Police in Reading, Pennsylvania, are reeling after uncovering the horrifying details of a triple murder that left a young family dead.

On September 13, officers discovered the body of 31-year-old Junior Cabrera-Colon with a gunshot wound along River Road. When investigators learned his wife, 24-year-old Geraldina Peguero-Mancebo, and their 1-year-old son, Jeydon Junior, were missing, a desperate search began.

Days later, the nightmare only deepened. Police found Geraldina dead in a field in Ontelaunee Township. The search for baby Jeydon ended in heartbreak when his tiny body was recovered nearby.

Authorities arrested 61-year-old Jose Luis Rodriguez on September 18, after he reportedly confessed to killing Cabrera-Colon and disposing of his body. According to court documents, Rodriguez admitted he had been in an intimate relationship with Geraldina, giving her money and pressuring her to leave her husband. When she refused, jealousy drove him to commit an unthinkable act.

Rodriguez told police he shot Geraldina in the head before dumping her body. But the most disturbing revelation came when he described what he did to baby Jeydon. Instead of taking the child to safety, Rodriguez said he threw the 1-year-old into a lake, leaving him face down in the mud to die. Prosecutors say the boy was alive at the time.

Berks County District Attorney John Adams called the case one of the most horrific crimes he’s ever seen. “I cannot imagine anything more horrifying than throwing that 1-year-old child into that pond of water, and that child is left there to die,” he told reporters.

Rodriguez now faces three counts of first-degree murder. Adams confirmed that his office will pursue the death penalty.

This senseless tragedy has left a community in shock, mourning a family destroyed by jealousy and violence.
