A 75-year-old woman was left partially blind after a terrifying daylight attack in downtown Seattle, where authorities say a man swung a large wooden board with a screw sticking out of it and struck her directly in the eye.
The violent incident unfolded late in the morning on Dec. 5 along Third Avenue outside the King County Courthouse, according to court records and local reports. Surveillance video obtained by KOMO shows the woman, identified as Jeanette Marken, standing on the corner and waiting to cross the street to pick up a food order.
Without warning, a man alleged to be Fale Pea, 42, approached Marken carrying a long wooden board. The footage shows him drawing back and swinging the board with force.
The blow struck Marken’s right eye, which was gouged out in the attack, according to KOMO. Bystanders quickly stepped in, taking photos of the suspect and rushing to help the injured woman until emergency crews arrived. Marken was taken to a hospital, where doctors told her she will not regain vision in her right eye and may require additional surgeries.
Police arrested Pea nearby. Body camera footage shows officers were already familiar with him.
“Who is this guy?” a paramedic asked an officer during the response.
“He’s a regular,” the officer replied. “He usually punches. I guess today he decided to escalate things way worse than his usual.”
Another officer added that Pea is well-known along Third Avenue, calling him “notorious for random assaults,” according to video reviewed by KOMO.
Court records show Pea has a lengthy history of violent offenses, including prior assault convictions. He has also previously been convicted of stabbing someone eight times at a party, according to reports.
Pea is charged with first-degree assault with a deadly weapon causing bodily harm. He has pleaded not guilty. A competency hearing was initiated on Dec. 11, and earlier this week a judge ruled that Pea is fit to stand trial.
For Marken’s family, the attack has raised painful questions about safety and whether the violence could have been prevented.
“To take a wood club with nails and just decide to hit her in the face with all that force — that’s not someone you can recover or help,” her son, Andrius Vyrikis, told local reporters. “I want someone to at least say to my mom, ‘We’re working on this. We’re trying to fix this.’”
Pea remains jailed on $1 million bond. His trial is expected to begin early next year.

The only way this POS is ever gonna be dealt with, is street justice. These pathetic cities and their pathetic liberals yjat run them, cant seem to control this trash so, its up to the rest of the citizens to take out the trash. Also, how about stop voting for the garbage that keeps this trash on the streets.
Give him the same treatment and then see that he is not allowed into society
She should get an attorney and sue the court system that allows this abhorrent and toxic behavior. Even a dog is put down after it attacks a person. This is outrageous egregious behavior completely outside the law. What is Oregon doing allowing this utter lawlessness ?????????????????
Why is this man walking around free after so many confirmed assaults ?????????????????????????????????
