The son of an elderly woman who was fatally shot in her house in September by a “heartless killer” now wants to know why someone would target his mother.

Rose Goodman, 80, was found dead inside her southwest Philadelphia home on September 7 during a wellness check, according to local news station 6 ABC

“I would say if you know something, I would just urge you to say something. I mean you are protecting a heartless killer,” said Rose’s son Alan Goodman.

Police believe the suspect broke into the house through the basement window. Investigators are still searching for the suspect and the motive behind the murder.

Alan believes that his mother was targeted because she lived alone and that the suspect “took advantage of that.”

Rose reportedly had an open-door policy for her son’s friends, treating them as family.

“A lot of our friends didn’t grow up with two parents, and so you know it was kind of, you know, my mom and my dad kind of took on that role,” said Alan.

The city is offering a reward worth $20,000 for information that would lead to the arrest of the shooter.

“When an 80-year-old woman who did nothing but love her family, friends, and the community her entire life is brutally murdered in her home, we as a society cannot and should not accept this,” said Lt. Hamilton Marshmond with Philadelphia police in September.
